There has been a lot of write ups about the use of Web Office applications to date. I've been playing with Google's offerings of course, along with their email domain hosting option. It appears that Microsoft's Exchange Server is safe for now, as these apps while offering a cute web 2.0 interface just can't compete with the collaboration tools that users have come to expect from Exchange. But the Web Office world is slowly making some ground as seen with Google's offerings. I'm still suspect on the idea of relying on an Internet connecting to get work done, and allowing a 3rd party to host my content. I hope that MS can capitalize on this and add to their MS Live efforts.
But one tool I think I could really use today at work and home is an on-line Word Processor. I'm getting tired of taking notes by hand only to never set eyes on them again. Case in point I'm breaking down a database report and underlying queries for like the 4th time. So I will be making an effort to throw away the notepad and document my analysis with an on-line collaborate tool that I can access from multiple locations. A tool that I can search and find specific information that I don't have to re-do again in the future. I'll report back if this effort falls squarely in its/my face.
However, I'm surprised that Google hasn't offered a fully featured on-line word processor at this time. I guess I've become too impatient to wait on them, so I remembered a familiar offering at www.writely.com. So far I'm very impressed with the features. The common word processor functionality is there, along with Collaboration, Publish and blogging tools. Well, the blogging option caught my eye with the ability to directly publish to my blog. This could be my new favorite web 2 app. Ok, one beef so far, Writely doesn't support image links. Not a show stopper for sure, but this may not turn into my blog publishing tool....just yet.
And yes NoWood Matt, Word Press is supported. cool eh?
